In areas such as engineering and product management, the representation of women lags at every level. Per Zippia, women hold 5% of the leadership job in the technology sector. Women only hold 32% of director positions, 28% of supervising jobs, and 32% of individual contributor roles in the tech industry. Recent studies indicate a lack of female role models in the field (42%), gender bias in the workplace (39%), unequal growth opportunities compared to men (36%), and unequal pay for the same skills (35%).

In addition to allies and role models, a key factor to women entering and staying in the microelectronics are mentorship and sponsorship, by both women and men. This critical component begins in school and continues throughout a woman’s career. These crucial relationships which provide guidance and growth opportunities which are necessary to succeed.
